Facebook Personal Profile or Facebook Business Page: Sorting Your Audience

facebook-like-button_originalSo how do you keep friends and family on your profile page and clients, customers and prospects on your business page?

First of all, when you are marketing your business, you will be asking people to find you on Facebook. The address you will use is the Facebook address to your business page. This way you are intentionally driving your business traffic to your business page.   When you are talking to friend and family, you will tell them to find you by your first and last name. That way they will find your personal profile, and not end up on your business page.

For instance, if I invite you to my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/tekkbuzz, you will be taken to my business page. You will not end up on my profile page unless you search for my name in Facebook.

Facebook is trying to help us use profiles and business pages separately, but it's not a perfect system yet. My suggestion is join some profile pages and business pages of some other business owners and see how others are working the two areas. You can start with mine. View my business page at http://www.facebook.com/tekkbuzz. Then go to my personal profile at https://www.facebook.com/deborah.tekkbuzz.

As a side note, I made a mistake when I named my personal page URL. I should have name it Deborah.richmond, rather than Deborah.tekkbuzz. So learn from my mistake. When it's time to name custom URL, use your name for the personal profile and your business name for the business page.

To Your Success,
